Hidden Hazards

Before starting, verify no electrical, water, or gas conduits are present in the mounting location (including hidden inside the wall).

Contact with these can result in property damage (flood/fire/etc.), injury, and/or death.

When in doubt, consult with a professional.

Weight Limits

Ensure your selected mounting location is capable of supporting the gear rack and any accessories you plan to add to it.

MontaVelo products are not intended to support more than simple cycling accessories like a helmet, shoes, and glasses. Maximum weight capacity is 5 lbs. Do not exceed this limit.

Mounting Location

To avoid incident, do not mount MontaVelo products near/above people, pathways, or pets.

Drywall anchors are included with each Alta gear rack. These are intended for 1/2" drywall only.

If mounting on other surfaces, specialized hardware may be needed.

What's included

Alta Cycling Gear Rack

2x #6 drywall anchors

2x #6 screws

2x screw locators

U-shaped spacer

Before you start

Check for hidden hazards before installing. Verify no electrical wiring, water pipes, or gas conduits are present behind your chosen mounting location. When in doubt, consult a professional.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 - Select your location

Find your preferred location for the Alta. Mark the holes for the wall brackets — they are 21.75" apart and should be vertically aligned. Confirm with a level.

Tip #1:

Assemble the Alta and hold it up to the wall to help visualize it in your space.

Tip #2:

Insert the screw locators into the top and bottom brackets. Hold the assembled rack where you want it, ensure it's level, and press firmly into the wall. It will leave small indentations exactly where the drywall anchors need to go.

Step 2 - Install drywall anchors

Screw a #6 drywall anchor into each mounting location and tighten until it sits flush with the wall.

Tip #3:

No drill needed. Press the head of your screwdriver firmly into the drywall to create a starter indentation for the anchor. Or use the indented location from Tip #2.

Step 3 - Drive screws into anchors

Start a #6 screw into an anchor. Drive it in most of the way, leaving a gap of approximately ¼ inch between the screw head and the wall.

Place the U-shaped spacer smooth side up around the screw (the indent should sit around the drywall anchor) and tighten until the spacer barely slides out. Remove the spacer.

Repeat for the second anchor.

Step 4 - Assemble the Alta

Slide the attachments onto the rod in your desired order. Ensure the top bracket is at the top and the bottom bracket is at the bottom or it won't fit onto the mounting screws.

Tip #4:

To identify the brackets, look at the holes on the back. The hole should be oriented like a snowman with the smaller opening on top.

Tip #5:

Typical attachment order from top to bottom is:

Helmet Hanger, Helmet Standoff, Sunglasses Holder (Short), Sunglasses Holder (Long), and Shoe & Glove Hanger at the bottom.

Step 5 - Mount the rack

Ensure the Alta is fully assembled but not yet loaded with gear. Line up the Alta rack with both screws and carefully slide it downward to secure it into place.

If it feels loose or wobbly, remove the rack, slightly tighten the screw at the loose bracket, and try again. Continue adjusting screw depth until the rack is stable and secure.

Tip #6:

If tightening for fit, it is recommended to do only 1/4 of a turn at a time.

Be careful not to overtighten the screws. If they are tightened too far, it may be difficult to loosen them without loosening the drywall anchor.

Step 6 - Load your gear

Add your helmet, sunglasses, and shoes. You're all set!

Installation FAQ & Troubleshooting

The rack wobbles after installation

Check that both anchors are fully seated and screws are tightened to the point where the included spacer just barely slides out.

Try step 5, tip #6 if you haven't already.

If the wall surface is irregular, a small shim behind the bracket can help.

The anchor won't grip the wall

This may indicate the wall is thicker than standard drywall or a different material. Use appropriate hardware for your wall type or consult a professional.

An attachment won't slide onto the rod

Attachments are intentionally designed with an interference fit so they stay in place once installed. They should slide on with moderate pressure when correctly aligned. Excessive force is not required. If it's not working, check alignment or contact us at support@montavelo.store. Do not excessively force an attachment, as injury could result.
